The orchid is the national flower of Colombia, named as such in 1936 by the Colombian Academy of History.
It is one of the great riches of Colombia, known and appreciated by the whole world, especially the variety called Cattleya Trianae. Is named in honor of Colombian naturalist José Jerónimo Triana.

It comes from the plant espífita fleshy leaves, of the family of orchids, structure and colors are extraordinarily beautiful. Abound in temperate climates in the mountainous regions near Bogota and in the departments of Antioquia, Caldas, Risaralda, Boyacá, Santander, Huila, Valle, Cauca and Nariño and bloom during the months of March and April.

In the department of Antioquia is located the National Orchid Park, a special privilege for the cultivation of orchids, as many of them grow wild in various regions of southwestern Antioquia. Colombian Orchids are "unique" and the most beautiful in the world
